Mount Kenya provides various natural resources to the local and national populations.
It provides wood products for fuel, building and construction; it is a dry period refuge for grazing, it is also a source for edible and medicinal plants and water.
Uncontrolled and illegal uptake of forest, wildlife and water resources contributes to environmental degradation, loss of species and drying of rivers.
