Community forestry: Get involved in rural forestation and green schools programs; tree planting and community awareness raising

Tree nursery management- Tree nurseries are important in success of rural and urban forestry in Kenya. Community groups set up tree nurseries for small scale enterprise. You will participate in tree nursery establishment, care and transplanting of seedlings as well as well as assisting local groups to set up more viable small tree nursery enterprises.

Participate in forestry research: Designing and implementing research surveys to identify the best ways of working together with communities to support sustainable management and conservation of forest resources. Some days may be spent out in the field visiting households and other respondents collecting data on various forest conservation related issues such as the extent of illegal access to forest products, poaching, forest fires, logging, trends in loss of forest cover, impacts of climate change, community benefits from forest products, community recommendations on the best forest management practices, and give feedback to the relevant authorities.
