Fund Raising Volunteer

Duration:        Six Months, Renewable

Location:        Kenya, East Africa

 

 

Mt. Kenya Conservation Forum has an exciting fundraising placement that will offer volunteers the opportunity to gain real hands-on experience working directly for an environmental conservation organization based in Kenya, East Africa.

We are looking for a passionate and self-driven fundraising volunteer to help us raise funds for our ambitious conservation and community development programs.

 

Working alongside the top management of Forum, the candidate will be involved in researching potential donors and trusts while writing and submitting funding proposals.

This position would suit someone with a background in management and project planning, wishing to strengthen their skills particularly in the area of fund raising, event planning and organizing.

This is a role that requires long-term commitment. A six month commitment living abroad is essential. Time required will be approximately 8 hours per day from Monday to Friday. Weekends are free.

 

Overall Responsibility

 

The overall responsibility of the interested eligible volunteer (s) will be to develop an effective resource mobilization strategy that will ensure Mt. Kenya Conservation Forum has a financial capacity to achieve its conservation objectives.  In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chairman of the Forum, the candidate will be involved in maintaining and developing links with potential international donors while at the same time developing local mechanisms for generating funds.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Identifying suitable donor agencies to partner with 

  • Developing and guiding a mechanism of attracting donors

  • Developing a mechanism of retaining partners and resources

  • Recruitment of year round fundraising team and managers

  • Recruitment of extra fundraising volunteers specifically during fund raising Event Days

  • Training of all fundraising personnel and volunteers in line with agreed processes

  • Developing mechanisms of generating internal funds

  • Come up with innovative ideas for fundraising

  • Make a fundraising strategic  plan for the organization

  • Promoting good relationship with donors, partners and other conservation and development institutions for fundraising, benchmarking and synergy creation to take the organization to the next desired level.

Person specification:

 

The successful candidate should be:

 

  • A talented and highly motivated individual who will be committed to the objectives of the organization

  • Have excellent written and spoken communication skills in English

  • A strategic thinker and practical problem solver

  • A team player

  • Flexible, adaptable and resourceful

  • Have good computer skills, analytical skills, and proposal writing for funding

  • Have ability to self start with minimal supervision

  • Have enthusiasm and dedication

  • Sensitive to and appreciative of  cultural differences and diversity

  • Interest in working in Africa

  • Able to build donor loyalty

  •  Previous experience is not required, though may be an added advantage.

  •  

Other requirements

 

  • Experience in working with an NGO is an added advantage

  • Ability and willingness to bear  all costs related to this placement including (but not limited to) travel, living costs in Kenya, medical and travel insurance  which is mandatory

Length of the Placement
