Program details

Our Farming Project offers volunteers the opportunity to work on a small scale organic farm. The farm is based in a private school and it is a major source of food provided to school kids. There are possibilities of placement in other small farms within this program. Volunteers are responsible for maintaining all aspects of the farm including animal care, crop-growing, tree nursery management, taking care of flowers, medicinal herbs and traditional foods cultivation and land-management while applying the principles of sustainable agriculture. From time to time volunteers may demonstrate sustainable agriculture practices to students, teachers, parents and farmers.  Produce which is grown on the farm includes small quantities of horticulture crops including carrots, cabbages,  spinach, kales,  English potatoes, maize, beans, pumpkins, onions, and more. Animal care will involve looking after zero grazing cows, rabbits, pigs, domestic and wild birds, a few goats and sheep.  Volunteers will receive farm management induction training from local specialists and on the job learning from farm workers. Other activities include participating in small scale fencing; repairs of animal enclosures, building rest areas, and general construction and repair works.  This project may be combined with another project or activities.
